For many of us, sailing continues to be the epitome of freedom and adventure: gliding along almost silently to the rhythm of nature – this idea makes the hearts of true sailing fans beat faster. Of course, sailing also has a firm place at INTERBOOT – and in all sizes. From small sporty dinghies and daysailers to large yachts, we will be showing a full repertoire where every sailor is guaranteed to find the object of their dreams.
America's Cup AC40 sailing simulator
The German team competing in the America's Cup relies on digital training methods to simulate racing situations safely, regardless of weather conditions and at low cost. The detailed AC40 sailing simulator, which replicates the cockpit of a real racing yacht, allows crew members to practice procedures and develop a feel for the boat. It will be presented in Hall A3 at Interboot. One person who has already tested the AC40 sailing simulator extensively is Lukas Hesse, a professional sailor and crew member for the 2024 America's Cup. He has spent countless hours preparing in the high-tech simulator. “The cockpit, the steering, the buttons – everything is identical to the real boat,” reports Lukas Hesse. "It's a great way to familiarize yourself with the technology, learn how the boat gets onto the foils, or practice maneuvers and speed optimizations. Even the steering wheel reproduces realistic rudder pressure, allowing the sailor to feel the resistance and behavior of the boat.“ Another important feature of the simulator: ”If you capsize with a real AC40, the damage can easily amount to around 10,000 euros. Here on the simulator, you can capsize, but you won't get wet and you can start again from the beginning without it costing you anything. In my opinion, it's essential to master the simulator before getting into a real racing yacht," says Lukas Hesse. It's also possible to compete against other crews online. “We had a WhatsApp group with the New Zealand team, raced against them, and practiced communicating with each other,” reports the professional sailor.
At Interboot 2025, Lukas Hesse will present the AC40 simulator together with his colleague Jesse Lindstäd. Anyone who feels like it can climb into the cockpit and test their sailing skills.
