3D scanning, design and 3D printing have made their way into boatbuilding: as a means of creating components that no longer exist, brackets that have never existed before, and fits that can only be achieved by hand after days of fine-tuning. This 20-minute demonstration provides an overview of the process, carried out directly on the component itself. The scan is created live in front of the audience; the subsequent steps are illustrated using the finished intermediate stages – the meshed scan, the modelled add-on part and the printed component. The aim is to give a realistic impression of what is possible with these methods and where the limitations lie.
